Curatorial Fellowship | Arts and Sience

Duration: 2 month

The Künstlerhaus Lukas, in cooperation with the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop, awards two-month curatorial fellowships. The goal of the fellowship is to realize curatorial concepts that involve both former fellows and external artistic positions.

The curatorial fellowship is open to all disciplines. The choice of themes, artistic positions (including alumni), and formats is unrestricted. Transdisciplinary projects located at the intersection of art and science are especially welcome. We particularly support projects that address socially relevant topics, such as ecological issues, and aim to combine artistic practice with scientific approaches.

The curatorial fellowships are funded with a total of 2.400 € consisting of:

  • 1.900 € fellowship from Künstlerhaus Lukas

  • 500 € project fee from Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop

For the implementation of the project at Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop, a budget of up to 5.000 € is available (subject to annual budget approval). This budget is intended for artist fees, travel and accommodation costs of participating artists, publications and public relations, event fees, exhibition design, and exhibition fees in accordance with BBK guidelines (sufficient for three artists; additional funding is required for more participants). Additional grant applications to supplement the budget are supported.

Exhibitions at the Neues Kunsthaus typically run for around two months. The exact exhibition period is coordinated with the involved parties.

Guest curators work closely with the artistic and administrative management of Künstlerhaus Ahrenshoop e.V. on exhibition preparation. This includes joint applications for funding, exhibition setup and dismantling, the opening, planning and implementation of accompanying events (e.g., guided tours, workshops), and participation in mediation and outreach activities.

All participating artists and partners will enter into formal agreements.

Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop covers the general operating costs of the exhibition, including supervision and art mediation during opening hours.

General Requirements for Curatorial Fellowships:

  • Applications are open to curators, researchers, artists, and former fellows of Künstlerhaus Lukas.

  • At least 50% of participants involved in the curatorial project must be former fellows of Künstlerhaus Lukas (principle of continued support). Our alumni archive on the website is available for research.

  • Self-exhibiting by curators is not permitted.

The curatorial fellowships are awarded by Künstlerhaus Ahrenshoop e.V., with the involvement of the independent expert jury of Künstlerhaus Lukas.

After a fellowship is awarded, the concept is finalized in close collaboration with the artistic director of Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop.

Coordination Fellowship in the Arts

Duration: 3 months

Künstlerhaus Lukas offers a three-month fellowship in the field of arts coordination. It is aimed at graduates of humanities or business-related degree programs with a demonstrated interest in cultural topics—particularly in the institutional work of the arts and culture sector and in contemporary forms of artistic expression across all disciplines.

Künstlerhaus Lukas and Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop are internationally connected cultural institutions. Together, they offer fellows in arts coordination the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the workflows, challenges, and strategies involved in institutional cultural practice and to actively engage in ongoing processes.

Throughout the fellowship, participants will gain in-depth insights into core areas such as event planning, project development, public relations, editorial work, artist support, and the preparation of funding applications. Fellows are invited to take part in the activities of both institutions run by Künstlerhaus Ahrenshoop e. V., with the aim of building practical knowledge, developing professional skills, and better understanding the structures and practices of cultural institutions. Personal project ideas may also be pursued within the available time and resources.

The fellowship lasts for three months. During this period, fellows live free of charge at Künstlerhaus Lukas and receive a monthly stipend of 1.200 €.

Application Instructions:
In addition to uploading a CV, applicants are asked to submit a motivation letter via the “Work Proposal” upload field. The “Portfolio” field may be used to present previously realized projects, relevant experiences, or ideas for potential future work.

Schoolarship for Artist Groups

Duration: 14 days

Künstlerhaus Lukas offers two-week working fellowships to interdisciplinary artist groups with up to three participants. Interdisciplinary and cross-border collaborations with a focus on the Baltic Sea region are especially welcome.

The application must be submitted by a representative of the group, who submits the proposal on behalf of the entire group. The concept paper should list all group members by name and include brief biographical information.

The group fellowships are intended for the development and/or implementation of collaborative artistic projects. Both conceptual preparatory work and research, as well as the realization of specific projects, are supported.

Künstlerhaus Lukas provides a focused and inspiring working environment for artistic group work. Each group member is provided with their own studio. The large event space, the garden, and the print shop can be used for collaborative work.

The stay at Künstlerhaus Lukas as part of the workshop fellowship is free of charge. In addition, the group receives a working stipend of 600 €.

The group fellowships are awarded for the month of August. During this period, there is the opportunity to present a short presentation as part of the "Kunstnacht" (Art Night) in Ahrenshoop. A performance fee of up to 600 € can be awarded for this.

Fellowship Baltic Sea | Kunsthalle Rostock

Duration: 2 month

Starting in 2026, Künstlerhaus Lukas, in cooperation with Kunsthalle Rostock, will offer a new international fellowship for artists from the Baltic Sea region.

The Fellowship Baltic Sea | Kunsthalle Rostock is primarily aimed at professionally active, independent artists from the Nordic and Baltic countries. In exceptional cases, artists based in Germany may also apply, provided there is a clear connection to the international Baltic Sea region—such as a thematic focus in their artistic practice or place of origin.

The fellowship includes a two-month working residency at Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop and is awarded with a total stipend of 2.400 €. In addition, Kunsthalle Rostock provides an extra budget of 2.500 €  for production costs, exhibition fees, and travel expenses.

During the stay in Ahrenshoop, a solo exhibition for the Lab Space will be conceptualized in collaboration with the team of the Kunsthalle Rostock. The exhibition will last approximately four weeks and will take place independently of the residency period. The exact exhibition date will be agreed upon individually, in consultation with the Kunsthalle Rostock and the fellow.

The fellow will be chosen by a jury composed of members of the Kunsthalle Rostock team and the artistic leadership of Künstlerhaus Lukas.

The Fellowship Baltic Sea | Kunsthalle Rostock strengthens artistic exchange within the Baltic Sea region by offering international artistic positions visibility through presentation at the renowned Kunsthalle Rostock.
