General Funding Guidelines
General Funding Guidelines for the Awarding of Fellowships by Künstlerhaus Lukas – as of 14 May 2025
I. Application Requirements
Independent, professionally active artists of all disciplines may apply for artistic fellowships. Scientists and artists may apply for fellowships in curating and art coordination.
Students currently enrolled at a university or academy are not eligible to apply
There is no age limit for fellowship applications.
Eligible applicants must have their primary residence in Germany or a Baltic Sea country (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark) as well as Norway or Iceland at the time of application.
Proof of health insurance is required for fellows from non-EU countries (Norway, Iceland).
Proficiency in either German or English is required.
Former fellows may reapply no earlier than five years after receiving a previous fellowship. This restriction does not apply to fellowships for artist groups or fellowships in curating/art coordination.
II. Type, Scope and Amount of the Fellowship
Fellowships are awarded either as residencies at Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop or at partner institutions. Fellows are expected to spend at least two-thirds of their fellowship period on site.
Only the residencies at Künstlerhaus Lukas are offered as flexible fellowships: duration from 14 days up to 3 months. Fellowships at international partner institutions currently last one month.
Künstlerhaus Lukas has six studios. Due to the constraints of the historic building, the studios are generally designed and equipped for one person. Upon request, the Künstlerhaus will make efforts to temporarily accommodate partners and/or children.
In addition to free accommodation (including electricity, water, and heating), individual fellows receive a monthly stipend of 1,200 euros—subject to available funding.
Artist groups receive 600 euros in addition to a free 14-day stay (for a maximum of four participants), as well as an optional fee of up to 600 euros for participation in the “Kunstnacht Ahrenshoop” event (in August).
Additional costs for materials, travel, or transport cannot be reimbursed.
Fellows may work in the in-house print workshop. A library, an electric piano, and technical equipment are also available upon request.
