The jury is reappointed every two years by the Artistic Advisory Board. The results of the jury for the 2026/27 funding period will be announced in October 2025.
FAQ about the Application
Call for Applications 2026/27
Note: The general funding guidelines describe the eligibility requirements and the different types of scholarships. You will find detailed information on each scholarship under the respective scholarship group.
1. Who are the scholarships at Künstlerhaus Lukas intended for?
Applications are open to freelance, professionally working individual artists, artist groups, curators/researchers, and cultural managers residing in Germany or one of the Baltic Sea countries (Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Sweden) as well as Norway and Iceland. There are special group scholarships available for artist groups.
2. Can students/enrolled individuals apply?
Students who are enrolled at the time of application, either in Germany or abroad, are not eligible to apply. This also applies to doctoral candidates who are enrolled or registered at a university.
3. Can I apply for multiple scholarships, for example, a residency at Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop and a scholarship for Iceland?
Yes, you may apply for different types of scholarships. However, a separate application must be submitted for each scholarship via the online portal, and the corresponding application fee must be paid for each.
4. I have previously been a scholarship holder at Künstlerhaus Lukas or a guest at one of the partner institutions. Can I apply again?
Former scholarship holders may reapply no earlier than five years after receiving a scholarship. This exclusion period does not apply to group scholarships or scholarships for curation/art coordination.
5. I do not have German citizenship but have been officially registered with primary residence in Germany since at least 15 May 2025. Can I apply for a scholarship?
Yes. Non-EU citizens must additionally include in their portfolio a scan of their residence permit or proof of residence rights, as well as a scan of their ID document (both sides) or passport, and a registration certificate dated 15 May 2025.
6. What should my portfolio include?
The portfolio should document your artistic or curatorial/scientific work and provide a representative overview of your activities, especially from the last five years. Documentation may include work samples, certificates, written descriptions of current activities, press clippings, etc. It is important that your long-term (not only temporary) professional independence in the artistic or curatorial/scientific field is evident. If available, please also include a selection of your most important publications (e.g., discography, bibliography, performance list, web references, YouTube links, etc.).
Technical requirements: The portfolio must be uploaded as a PDF file (max. 50 MB) in either German or English.
Scope:
Literature: 5 to 20 manuscript pages
Performance, Video, Music/Composition: Links to a maximum of five recordings, video works, or audio samples
Curation: Presentation of the planned curatorial project, with references to previously realized projects if applicable
Art Coordination: Presentation of relevant experience and, if applicable, planned projects in Ahrenshoop
7. Who decides on the awarding of scholarships?
An independent expert jury of ten members, appointed every two years by the Artistic Advisory Board, decides on the awarding of scholarships. To ensure a fair and unbiased selection process, the jury’s composition will only be announced after the selection process is complete. There is no legal entitlement to funding.
8. I cannot open the online application portal. What could be the reason?
You may be using an outdated browser. Please check whether your browser is up to date or try using a different browser.
9. Why can’t I submit my application?
This is often due to files being too large. Please observe the file size restrictions: CV and project proposal: max. 500 KB, portfolio: max. 50 MB (as a PDF file).
10. What does “Flex-Scholarships” for residencies at Künstlerhaus Lukas mean?
Künstlerhaus Lukas offers flexible scholarships with a residency duration of between 14 days and three months. This flexibility is intended to create optimal working conditions, taking into account the scale of the project and individual life circumstances (e.g., family or professional obligations). You can specify your desired residency duration in the application form. The final decision will be made by the jury, considering the capacity of the house and the overall program.
Please note: Künstlerhaus Lukas is available to scholarship holders only during March, April, May, June, September, October, and November 2026/27. August is reserved for artist groups. As cleaning phases are scheduled between residencies, the scholarship duration may slightly deviate from full calendar months. Your specific arrival and departure dates will be communicated in good time by the Künstlerhaus management.
